Antonio Campi (Cremona 1524 - 1587)

1560/1565 - Putto with lute

The little boy is painted in the sail to the southeast of the ceiling of one of the ground floor hall of the Palazzo Pallavicini-Barbò. The entire ceiling frescoes dedicated to the "loves of Jupiter" have been heavily "restored" in the eighteenth century.

Of the Lute, seen from below, you see only the handle with the pegbox and the back, probably made up of nine concave slats of maple. The absence of the pegs view does not determine the armor of strings of the instrument.
