1584/86 - Galleria degli antichi in Sabbioneta

The "great corridor", which is accessed from the Palazzo Giardino, was built between 1584 and 1586 to contain the Duke's collections, which included ancient marbles and hunting trophies from the imperial collections of Prague, which remained here until 1873, when they were transferred to Mantua. The walls were frescoed in 1587 by the Arezzo painters Giovanni and Alessandro Alberti and their aides and along the long walls many musical instruments are painted.
