Antonio Rizzi, Cremona, 1869 - Firenze 1940

1928/29 - Allegory of musicians and luthiers of Cremona

The painting represents in center Claudio Monteverdi at the harpsichord, surrounded by Amilcare Ponchielli and Ruggero Manna (in the foreground) and accompagned at right by a young that play a viola da gamba (rigth-back, Nicola Bassi?) accompanies a chorus of maidens. On the left there is the figure of a luthier (Stradivari?) that approce the two halves of a violin soundboard and behind two young men, one who works in a string instrument and the other is holding a finished violin. In the sky they soar six half-naked female figures (the Muses?).
