Gagliano Alessandro

  • Naples, c. 1740 - c. 1725
  • He was the founder of the dynasty of luthiers in Naples. The thesis that it would have been a pupil of Stradivari in Cremona is discussed, but a confirmation would seem to make the trip of Homobonus Stradivarius in Naples, cited with regret by Antonio Stradivari in his will of 1728. According to tradition would be back in Naples in 1695, where he started his production of instruments managing to engage in the activity even the sons Gennaro and Nicola. Real specimen of his instruments are quite rare to find in good condition; but they are surviving violins, violas, and cellos.
