1564 - Small Violin "Carlo IX"

The belly is two-piece of spruce, open-grained in the center and narrowing towards the edges. The back is one piece of maple, with a curl decreasing toward the left. It has fragments of the painted decoration of the royal insignia used by Charles IX of France. The ribs are of maple, similar to the back. The lower rib is a one-piece, like the upper one probably was originally. Some gilt letters of the motto PIETATE ET IUSTITIA are still visible, like the K which stands for KAROLUS with floral decoration in the CC. Apparently, the scroll is original, with a gilt stripes decoration on the front and on the flanks and a floral decoration on the back. The present baroque fitting up is modern.
