1539/77 - Violin "ex Kurtz"

The belly is of good spruce, narrow-grained in the center and widening towards the edges. The “F-holes”s have big holes and the pipe is sinuous, with wide wing. The back is one-piece of curvy maple, radial cut and flaming descending to the left, with two position pins at the higher and lower edges of the joint. It shows traces of the original gilt painted decoration, almost complete near the neck and small in the middle, where some words ("QVO" - "NACVLO" ) of a motto are visible. The motto sorrounded a noble weapon and had four fleur-de-lys on the tips. On the maple ribs the gilt letters of the motto QVO VNICO PROPVGNACVLO STAT STABITQUE RELIGIO are visible, sourrounded by a gilt string. The ribs shows a geometrical pattern, similar to the back. On the scroll, there are remainings of a gilt decoration, especially on the back of the peg box. It has been repaired. The varnish is brown on a golden base.
